Promises

As I have been reading through the Bible again this year, and teaching in our home church’s children’s ministry; today it hit once again,

Punishment and blessing, everything God promises comes true! He is faithful to keep his Word!!!

I am reading through Leviticus and today, we studied Obadiah… All the blessings and punishments God promised Israel in Leviticus, played out later in the story of Scripture.

God said it, and he kept his Word a thousand years later… he has made promises of both blessings and punishments for us today as well. We can choose to obey and be forgiven and blessed for eternity, or choose to deny him and be punished for eternity. The consequences of both are clear.

On this day, which will you choose? God will always keep his promises.

Rhett & Link, YouTubers Popular With Youth, Deconstruct Their Faith

Extremely sad, these men had such a shallow idea of faith and worse, that they could drag so many down with them…

Managing Mistakes

Managing Mistakes

By Joe Cramer

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9

It’s easy for mistakes to be made. In today’s business world, it may seem common practice to hide your mistakes, or even blame someone or something else. The way we handle mistakes can set us apart as Christians and allow us to lead by example.

In my early years as an advisor, I would learn by watching my mentor (who I no longer work with). Whenever a mistake was made, he always found a way to spin the truth to protect his credibility and maintain the perception that he was an expert and a trustworthy advisor.

It‘s important to do our work with excellence and try our best to avoid mistakes – but mistakes do happen. Everyone makes mistakes, but it takes a certain kind of humility and integrity to honestly admit to them. My clients have respected and appreciated when I was honest about a mistake, and this has created more trust in turn.

By admitting to our mistakes with integrity and turning a negative situation into an opportunity to better serve those around you with excellence, we can continue to set good examples of what it means to be Christ in the workplace.

On a recent trip, my luggage was lost on a direct flight to Chicago. The baggage claim attendant, Sonja, apologized (even though it wasn’t her fault), updated me every 15 minutes, and promised me she would find my luggage and deliver it to me. An hour after I left the airport, she found my luggage and told me she would have someone (a nice guy named Herb) drive it to me in South Bend, two hours away. The world needs more people like Sonja and Herb, working with excellence and going the extra mile to take care of people in the marketplace.

CHALLENGE: What holds you back from being honest about your mistakes?

Faith Over Feelings: What Are You Led By?

This is a huge issue, especially in our current culture, where how we feel rules everything!

I have a teenage daughter who particularly struggles in this area… I continue to impress on her and myself as well that our feelings lie to us, and we need to trust Hod and Scripture before how we feel.

Some feelings are indeed valid, however it takes discernment and sometimes wise counsel to find the truth.

Resolute

Sermon given at Mt. Pleasant COG on 12/29/19

In 2020, let the body of Christ be united in one New Year’s Resolution…

To take life SLOW!

SLOW stands for:

S-Serve.
Serve God, serve one another, and serve our communities, fulfill the Great Commission to “make disciples” Matthew 28:19-20 and remembering Colossians 3:23-24.

L-Love. Love God, love one another, love your neighbor. Remember that is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-40

O-Obey.
Obey God’s precepts and commands found in the only inspired authoritative source of revelation from God. His Word. If there is a conflict between God’s Word and our cultural standards, God’s Word wins. If there is a conflict between His Word and another culture’s standards, God’sWord wins. We must season the truth with LOVE, not driving unbelievers further from grace and shouldn’t expect those who do not have a relationship with God to obey the commandments that God established for his children, but as his Children, we should obey our Father’s will. ‘By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.’ 1 John 5:2 NET

W-Worship.
Worship our Father in heaven, worship his Son, Jesus, our Savior, worship the Holy Spirit inside us, who helps us and guides us. Worship through love, prayer, work, service, obedience, song, teaching, learning… Remembering again Colossians 3:23-24. Everything we can do is an act of Worship. Remember worship equals service and personal sacrifice.

Here is our New Year’s Resolution…

Take it SLOW. Act SLOW. Be SLOW.
Be purposeful, determined, and unwavering; Be resolute; to SLOW up!

This Is How to Answer the Question About Gender Pronouns

Reflecting on Thankfulness

During Thanksgiving, it always seems odd to me that we have a specific holiday to remind us to be grateful for our lives, our freedoms, and our blessings.

Thanksgiving is not a worldwide holiday. Canada has their own version of it, but I am not so sure about other countries.

In the US, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 as a religious and public time of prayer, worship, feasting and fellowship dictated by the Calvinist pilgrim magistrate, William Bradford, and joined by the native tribe in the area, lead by Chief Massasoit. It was a three day festival to celebrate the peace, provision, harvest, and grace given to the settlers during the previous year.

George Washington is the one who issued the first ‘national’ Thanksgiving proclamation. However, it wasn’t until 1941 that it was adopted as a national holiday.

However, shouldn’t we be grateful everyday?

Philippians 4:4-7 says,

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

These are commands, not a suggestions, rejoice and don’t be anxious. They come with simple instructions on prayer, with the result of living serene and anxiety-free.

In AA, we are taught grateful alcoholics don’t get drunk and told, “if you’re not praying, you’re not staying (sober)”. I was taught to make a gratitude list and meditate on it, especially when feeling discouraged, down, or depressed. To remember what I am grateful for and what I stand to lose if I drink or use again. I had my top ten list. But, it was always the same ten. I didn’t really go beyond that for a long time.

Later, as a Christian, I started learning more about true thankfulness and praising God for his goodness and walking with me through my struggles.

A professor of mine really blew this door wide open for me with an assignment. Write down five things per day I am thankful for everyday for the 8 week term. The provisos, no repeats…! My top ten list lasted 2 days… In less than a week, I started to have trouble because all the big stuff and important people in my life were already on the list. I also found out quickly, I had to look back frequently to make sure I hadn’t already written something or someone down. I started to list some things that I had considered pretty mundane, but realized I was still thankful for them…things like pork egg rolls. The ability to occasionally purchase, eat, and enjoy pork egg rolls is something I appreciate…!

The more I wrote, the more I had to review what I wrote, the more grateful I became for each thing on my list, the more I praised God for all the blessings in my life!!!

It was powerful!

To be thankful every day for all the blessings and mercies in my life, from the most profound to the most overlooked and mundane, is how I need to live. Then, I am able to follow Paul’s command to rejoice always. Then, I am able to be content in any circumstance and not be anxious, because as Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.”

It all begins with THANKSGIVING every day!
